Filming- Day 1&2 (Thoughts/Improvements)

Filming Day 1

We begin filming Intruder on the 11th of February. My group and I(Rebecca), arrived at my home and began filming from around 10am until 12pm. As a group we decided I'd be behind the camera, filming our opening whilst Umme assisted, as well as being in charge of taking behind the scenes pictures of me filming. Since Billie and Jameel were our actors, I was also left to direct, although they all contributed on ideas in reference to the camera shots and angles, etc. On this day in particular, our main focus was to film all the darker, slow paced scenes involving the intruder(Jameel), walking into the home and up the stairs, using a wide range of shots and camera angles. The reason for this was to provide us with variety, therefore insuring we'd have enough footage to choose from when we'd be working on putting the sequence together. Once we'd collectively decided we'd filmed enough footage, we took into account the extra forty-five minutes we had left to film, to which we dedicated to filming the innocent character(Billie), walking along the corridor outside of her apartment before letting herself in and walking up the stairs, using the same techniques.

THOUGHTS:

Umme: I felt that the filming that day was successful, considering the time we had to complete two scenes. At first we thought that we'd be able to film at least 3-4 different scenes however when it came down to actually filming we found that it took some time wand repeating shots took longer than we thought.

Rebecca: I agree with Umme. I felt the day overall was successful. We were able to gather numerous amounts of different shots and found that we were working well together as a group.

Filming Day 2

On the second day of filming which took place on the 18th of February at the same location, (my home-Rebecca). We'd arranged to meet at 9am so we'd have to whole day to record the rest of our opening thriller sequence, however, did not start filming until 2pm, bearing in mind the equipment had to be returned by 4pm, because our main actress was running late. Despite the push for time, luckily, we still managed to film all we'd planned which was mainly the innocent character(Billie), doing her make-up and getting ready for an evening out before she is taken by the intruder(Jameel).

As well as using the same equipment on day 1 which consisted of the professional camera, a normal camera and tripod, we also decided to borrow some additional light with a stand which we used to help make the shadows. It was a struggle at first when trying to position the light as well aiming to get the balance of lighting right, however we were able to complete making the shadows with good quality which we're proud of. Using the professional camera was a good experience for use all as it helped us gain understanding as well as providing incite as to how much time and effort is put into achieving the right shots at a satisfying angle.

IMPROVEMENTS/THOUGHTS:

Umme: If ever given the opportunity to do this again, we'd start by making sure everyone arrives either early or on time to the location, as it provides us with more time to really think about what we want to shoot. Also, writing down our exact ideas in more detail in reference to the angle/shot types. Because we'd failed to do so this time around, and as well as having to rush towards the end, we were unable to film some shots because we'd forgotten.
